The History of Freemasonry in Foxton begins with the Lodge Foxton Kilwinning No 727 S.C. which came into existence on 26 January 1886. The Lodge did not possess any property and met in rented premises. On 9 September the Secretary notified the District Grand Lodge at Auckland that the Lodge agreed to hold under Grand Lodge of New Zealand as from 31 April 1890. The Lodge came over to Grand Lodge of New Zealand with 15 members and was placed as No 50 on the Register. The last record is of an Emergency Meeting held on 13 March 1891 when apparently the Lodge was wound up. There appeared to be no resolution or discussion re winding up. It appears to have quietly faded away. The present Lodge Te Awahou No 133 was opened in 1904 after a lapse of 13 years with16 members entered as Charter members. The Consecration and Installation of the Lodge took place in the Methodist Church, Foxton on Thursday 18th February 1904 and was carried out by the Most Worshipful the Grand Master M.W. Bro. H.J. Williams. Wor. Bro. A. D. Clemett was presented , obligated and installed as the Lodges first Master according to ancient custom. The meetings were still being held in the Good Templars' Hall and it was evident that the Brethren were concerned to secure a "home" of their own. In May 1904 approval was given at an Emergency meeting to purchase a site in Liddell Street. In December of that year the proposition to build a double hall was approved and the Building Committee be empowered to borrow up to 500 pounds at 6 percent was approved. On 20 January 1905 a contract was let to Bro's Jonson and it was reported in the Manawatu Herald under the heading of "Progress Foxton, The Masonic Hall" stated :Builders are busy engaged in the erection of a new two storied building, the building is to be 50ft x 30ft. Assembly hall can be used for dances, also has a 12 ft stage, two 400 gallon tanks, carrying enough water to supply all wants. Upstairs is the Lodge Room which will be elaborately furnished in every way." The Foundation Stone was layed on Sunday 22 January 1905 at 10.30am by the Worshipful Master after due procession to the site. November 1909 saw an important step forward when kerosene lamps were replaced by the installation of gas. At the September1921 meeting, the Lodge was asked "To recommend a petition for the proposed new lodge which was to be formed in Shannon and to be called "Otararu", latter changed to Mangahao. August 1926 saw approval for electric light to be installed. In February 1977 a proposal was submitted to the Brethren to remove the top story of the Liddell Street building due to a number of factors and in due course the work together with a number of other alterations to the ground floor were made and the new lodge rooms were consecrated on 11 October 1983 by the then Grand Master M.W. Bro. Dick. In May 1995 saw the first reference of the removal of the Lodge to a new building at the Te Awahou Masonic Court and in July of that year it was reported that the boxing for the foundations of the building were being prepared and in October an offer was accepted in the sum of $42,000 for the Liddell Street building. On Saturday 17 February 1996, by dispensation, the Lodge met in the new lodge room for the purposes of its Consecration. 12 March 1996 saw the first regular meeting of the Lodge in its new home. The Centenary meting was held on 9 March 2004 with R.W. Bro. Emmerson, Deputy Grand Master in attendance followed by a formal dinner on Saturday 13 March and a Church parade on the Sunday. The Grand Master M.W. Bro. Inder made an official visit at the May Installation of that year to complete the centennial festivities.
